Indy 500 in the Technicolor Universe
Yesterday was the Indy 500 (which is always great to watch) and I had started a sketch earlier in the day of Robot Number 3 behind the wheel of an Indy car to suit the day. Somewhere along the way, he took a hard turn into the Technicolor Universe leaving the monochromaticness faaaar behind. Rarely do I get so explosive with color and after completing this piece I wondered, Why? Something tells me the answer is similar to the one about me censoring myself- I was really just holding back... for some reason. Well if this is an indication of anything, it's that the new road is full of life, color, cars, and robots. The original is sold and we will be doing Canvas & Paper prints- we'll make the announcement of their availability soon!

Custom 67 Pontiac Firebird Convertible Drawing
It's been a while since the last post, but thought I'd start with the most recent and move in some direction from there. But for now here's a commissioned drawing I did last weekend of a 67 Firebird Convertible done primarily using airbrushed acrylics, pencil, and a little marker on 14"x17" paper. The last few months I've been lucky enough to do nothing but car drawings/paintings back to back and it's been a blast- I've got a lot more to post and a lot more to look forward to!

New Mixed Media Piece "Acrylic Spark" For Sale
I made this little test piece today in between emails and coffee to try
out a concept I had in mind. What it ended up being was a really mixed
media piece that was just plain fun to do! Here we have what started out
as a pure Sharpie Art piece, then added to with acrylic washes, opaques, and
finally enamel. A little bit of airbrushing and localized 'fling' to
finish it up. My basic idea was a spark plug with an acrylic fling style
spark- then I decided to embellish a little. What's really funny is the cross between Animation Cell style shading, and Airbrushed shading- means the rule book got thrown out the window on this one :)

NEW Sharpie Art "Acrylic Invasion!" Finished & For Sale
Well now... this is fun to look at! I made this piece as a re-visit to the idea of the "Sharpie Vs
Acrylic Battle"- only in this particular version the acrylic is the
invading force. I got to use a handful of methods I experimented with last
week and put them altogether to make this one- even did a little bit of
airbrushing to get some drop shadows in there to help add some life to
it. I'm still trying out brands of acrylic to test color quality, opacity, and dry gloss level, but I think I've found a couple that prove to be quite vibrant. This was a lot of fun and I didn't make too big of a mess. I really love the way the colors came out and how the different application techniques interact with the sharpie art.

New Sharpie Art "Beautiful Disaster" For Sale
Did
this piece suuuuper fast last night- had a small piece of 11"x14"
canvas and thought it'd be best used as a test piece for an idea I could
later use on a larger scale. I did the ink work 1st, then quickly
masked a few areas, flung in black and red acrylic, then unmasked to
reveal the clean canvas areas. The effect come out great- I was able to
mix a couple mediums without the acrylic dominating the Sharpie. Now
what to do with it...
Since it's in limbo, I'm making it available to buy for just $75, or an 8.5"x11" Print for just $15

"The Sharpie Vs Acrylic Battle" on Canvas For Sale!
So yes, I went a little wacky on this one. When I was finished with the Sharpie portion of this piece I took nice clean photos then realized it was still lacking a little. I didn't want to just full up the piece with more sharpie art (too predictable), but it needed something. Im not sure that THIS something is what it needed, but it did breath some extra life into it. I first spent some time brushing and blending acrylic Red, Black, White and Grey together before splashing them in from the corner. A good friend of mine told me that it looked like a Sharpie Vs Acrylic Battle- and I agree. Aside from the sharpied detail there's just more here- I like it :)
